  1. I LOVE John Williams' Olympic Fanfare.

In 1984, I participated in a High School Mass Band for the opening ceremonies of Olympic Baseball. (I think Baseball was an Exhibition Sport that year). You might remember the fabulous Olympic Band that was created solely to perform during the games, which was being run by USC Band Director Art Bartner. For this performance, the High School bands were going to back up the Olympic Band, and we rehearsed in the Dodger Stadium bleachers before the game. When rehearsal finished a few minutes early, Bartner asked, "Hey, do you kids want to hear the Olympic Band play that new Fanfare that John Williams just wrote?"

    HELL YES!!!!

Bartner turned the Olympic Band towards us and treated us to a private concert of the Fanfare. That is still one of my favorite musical moments.
